The MMS service relies heavily on the [standard caGrid Metadata Models|metadata134:Metadata Models] for its operations, but has additional classes for specifying parameters to its operations, and advertising its capabilities via service metadata (_ModelSourceMetadata_). The actual model itself is generated automatically by Axis, from the XML Schemas used by the MMS. As such, the object model is serialized automatically by Axis when exchanged between client and service.
