Upgrade caGrid 1.2 Grid to caGrid 1.3
The purpose of this guide is to provide step-by-step instructions to upgrade the caGrid 1.2 Training Grid to caGrid 1.3. It is assumed that you followed the caGrid1.2 Training instructions to set up your 1.2 version of the training Grid.
This guide will focus on
- Upgrading existing services and
- Deploying new services.
STEP 1: Prerequisites
Determine Grid Service Deployment Layout
This is the installation plan that was developed for the Training Grid. This information will allow us to install and configure our hosts and networking.Host / VM Configuration
The caGrid Knowledge Center created a basis caGrid 1.3 Virtual Machine suitable for VMWare ESX which was used as the "host" for each service. The VM was configured with a Grid user account and required software as listed here: caGrid 1.3 Host Configuration
Important Note: One service was deployed per VM on the caGrid 1.3 Training Grid. Configuration file setup:
Now that you have planned your installation, you can extract the files in caGrid-1.3-Configs-NCI.zip
. This zip file contains all configuration files that are needed to install an instance of caGrid. Contains QA, Stage, and Production directories.
Provided Tools
setMetadata.pl.zip: A Perl script that can be used to populate the service metadata for caGrid services. Instructions are provided in the top of the script. Tested on Mac and Linux.
STEP 2: Upgrade Services

The following three services were upgraded and tested in the specified order first for the Training Grid.Non Order Specific Service Upgrades
